Library Services

Residents of the Borough of Hellertown, 6 months and older, can obtain library cards with proper identification. This includes but is not limited to a student ID or driver's license. Residents residing outside the Borough of Hellertown must show proof of an ACCESS Library membership.


Beginning Tuesday, January 17th, 2023 HAL will offer inhouse cards for sale to people not eligible for ACCESS PA cards.  The cost is $40 for an individual and  $50 for a household. 

As a member of the Hellertown Area Library you will enjoy access to a wide variety of resources and services. The library provides a professionally selected collection of recreational, informational and educational materials for the entire family. The library participates in the ACCESS Pennsylvania state wide card system. 

The Hellertown Area Library offers technology of a fully automated system: borrowing, full catalog searching, location of materials and reserving of materials. The library maintains a collection of over 33,000 books and materials. The scope of the collection includes general fiction, non-fiction, reference, audio-visual materials, juvenile literature, music compact discs, databases, and video games. Local history items of interest to community members are kept in the Hellertown Collection, which may be used in the library. 

Patrons with valid library cards have full access to the Internet, free of charge. Appropriate use of the Internet is expected at all times. Please refer to the Internet and Computer Use Policy for more information. The library does have computers for word processing. Computer training from basic to advanced is available on a one-on-one basis. Please ask any staff member.
