The Hellertown Area Library accepts books from our patrons during regular operating hours, but please limit your donations to three boxes or bags at any one time.  Please do not put donated items in our outside book drop box or leave them by the front entrance when the library is closed. Items left outside will be exposed to moisture and be rendered unusable. We appreciate your gift and will evaluate each item for inclusion in the collection.  If an item is not added to our collection, it will be sold in our book sale.  All proceeds from the book sale will benefit the library.  Please read the guidelines below before bringing your donations to the library.  You may request a receipt for tax purposes for those items determined to be in "very good or better condition."  The library staff is prohibited from placing a value on donated items and can only acknowledge the number of items donated.


We are happy to accept:

  • Fiction and non-fiction books for adults that are less than 3 years old and are in very good or better condition
  • Fiction and non-fiction books for children that are less than 10 years old and are in very good or better condition
  • Collectible books
  • Audio books on CD (must be in working order)
  • Video games for recent systems (must be in excellent working order and contain all necessary accessories)
  • DVDs/Blu-Rays (must be in working order)


We will be unable to accept:

  • Magazines, including National Geographic
  • Textbooks
  • Books that have been stored and have acquired a musty odor, or books that are very old or damaged in any way, including:  missing, torn or yellowed pages, dusty covers, broken spines, coloring or writing inside.  Books must be in very good or better condition.
  • Fiction or non-fiction books that are more than 3 years old
  • VHS tapes
  • CDs, video games or audio books that are not in working order
  • Readers Digest Condensed Books
  • Computer software
  • Encyclopedias
  • Yearbooks
  • Notebooks and other materials of a personal nature
